Dream Synopsis

I was part of a simulated reality where everyone physically existed and moved around but the entire reality was overlaid by a generated world. In real life people could move around, live in places, visit others, but the real setting was blank-gray walls and buildings. People too wore blank gray outfits. Through the simulation everything was generated, wonderfully elaborate scenes and costumes, people drove crazy cars and carried cool looking things, but in reality they were all just solid gray geometric objects.

I was trying to level-up my social class by working for this guy delivering items but I couldn’t understand the process of how to work the social-currency-upgrade interface which was like a floating video-game console which had multiple steps and involved exchanging currency hours for coins. The dude was mad at me for being so ignorant about it and I gave up and wandered off.

I was bored so I decided to mess with the help-center, a little kiosk where you went to exchange broken objects and complained about them not working as expected. I guess I was a trouble-maker because the people on the other end knew me and were not looking forward to answering my questions.

I was talking with one of the helpers via a video screen and complaining (and in my head I knew I was bullshitting them) about some stupid gadget I had. The person was like “look, I shouldn’t do this but I’m going to give you this code that allows you to transform your object into anything you want.” It was like the skeleton key code that made the simulation change to anything. I guess the person thought this would get me off their back. So I used it and started changing things around me into different things, like changing the look of peoples cars and clothing. That got boring so I started changing buildings and signs. Something started to go wrong though. It was like the code was viral and started leaking between objects, changing other things that I had never touched. Soon everything started going haywire and I assumed it was overtaxing the system because everything started just shutting down and turning off, revealing the plain gray objects for what they were. Soon the whole place started just shutting down. Too much processing or power was being used and the whole grid just shut down. The whole simulation just stopped working. The once vibrantly glowing large city became a landscape of stagnate gray blocks. All the power had left and nothing worked, cars didn’t move, doors didn’t open, and the air ventilation system stopped blowing. I wandered around and people were in awe. Most people did not realize they were in a simulation and were seeing the plain gray structures for the first time.
