Dead Mans Fingers (xylaria polymorpha)
A saprobic fungus found in Europe and North America recognized by its elongated upright, clavate, or strap-like stromata poking up through the ground. In the wild the swollen, blackened ‘fingers’ can be mistaken for a partly buried human corpse.
