Astrology is a PRIME example of pseudoscience. It is wholly untrue that scientific investigations have never probed Astrology. Many peer-reviewed, double-blind studies have been done and they have ALL shown NO connection with predicting the outcome of a person or their life. The reason Astrology is not accepted as science is because again and again there is no correlation found between astrology and reality, and after a while, doing the same tests is a waste of time and money. Astrology is fun, but people assume the traits they identify with. You can have personal faith in Astrology, but it does not match what we observe and measure in our shared reality.

Astrology like alchemy and other ancient “sciences” were all part of the very real scientific lexicon of human understanding for thousands of years. They were baked-in to history and stories for millennia, which is why they are so hard to discard even though our knowledge has surpassed those definitions.

The only peer-reviewed study to show any truth in Astrology was done in 1978 and was found later to have used subjects already knowledgable of Astrology. What that study did show after further analysis was the profound influence on people’s self-concept, due to psychological processes like self-attribution and selective self-observation.

Attached is a link to one of the largest and best known studies done of Astrology. It started in 1958 as a health study where more than 2,000 people, all born in London, most within minutes of each other were tracked over the course of 40 years. Researchers looked at more than 100 different characteristics, including occupation, anxiety levels, marital status, aggressiveness, sociability, IQ levels and ability in art, sports, mathematics and reading — all of which astrologers claim can be gauged from birth charts. But analysis of the data as it relates to astrology failed to find any correlation between Astrological prediction and the outcomes of these peoples lives.

Now days astrology is in the same realm of palm-reading, fortune tellers and crystal balls. Cold-reading people for profit and false hope.

I hear you as a genuinely curious person which is why I feel good about spending the time talking with you. I love this stuff, but I guess I’m not convinced that there is any more mystery or magic to be found in Astrology. If you want exciting esoteric knowledge of arcane formulas that describe how to manipulate powers and predict the movement of people and the universe, I recommend hard science, that IS what science is trying to do. All historically esoteric systems were the first sciences, all just trying to measure and describe reality. We keep learning new things all the time and we must abandon old ways of thinking when new truth is presented. Continuing to use the language of “Astrology” in anything related to science is counterproductive because people have already assigned mystical meanings to those definitions. Quantum physics IS now the tool through which we measure and record our observations of reality.

Media may have religious and political motives for scientific information, but the people doing the work do not. I happen to be lucky enough to work at NCAR and I am surrounded by scientists daily. I see how their work of discovery is conducted, and although there is always problems, science today is massively connected and shared with people, universities and companies all over the world from all backgrounds, religions, cultures and ideologies in near real-time. Modern science is a hyper-connected multi-cultural community of millions of people all working towards the same goal… truth. Remember, Christianity was not rejecting Astrology per se, they were rejecting the science (of the time).

There is a myth (perpetrated for personal gain by pseudoscience and religious disciplines) that somehow certain aspects of science are not being investigated because of hidden agendas or lack of funding. I don’t see that as true. Money just lets scientists use big business and university equipment, but it does not stop scientific progress or investigation. PEOPLE are the explorers. Maybe in some cases it slows it down a bit, but anyone with data they want to crunch or scientific experiments they want to test can reserve lab time, and telescopes and supercomputers FOR FREE from our public science labs, and publish that data in open boards and pier reviewed publications. If it’s interesting, people will bite. Most people just don’t know these things because they are not researchers. With todays technology people are capable of measuring and recording physical phenomena all the time like never before. Regular people can even get stuff put on a rocket to space now if you follow the right protocols.

In my opinion scientists are the most honest observers of the universe we have. They don’t speculate, they watch and try to measure and replicate, or theorize how to replicate. They also feel, and have dreams and mystical insight like all other human beings, but they are getting extra information from their knowledge of science and new research. You might be surprised how many scientists have a personal interest in esoteric and magical knowledge, because it is all just knowledge and all the scientists I have ever met are all ADDICTED to knowledge. Researchers get paid shit, they are in it for the pure truth and the very real experience of being around for the unfolding of new knowledge and new insights. If there were any hints of some new properties of energy or a force we have never encountered people would be chomping at the bit to find and describe it, but those threads are just not there, we are running out of unexplained physical anomalies and really zeroing-in on the nature of physical existence.

All of that being said… you mentioned you have been in physics classes so excuse me if the rest of this comes off as mansplaining, but these are my reasons for poo-pooing Astrology:

First an anecdote: Astrology independently developed in Western, Asian, Indian, and South American cultures. They all figured out how to map the stars to tell dates, nothing mysterious about that, but when they stated getting around to ascribing mystic predictive meaning to planets, they all diverged wildly, which would not be expected if they were all observing the same phenomena. Same with comets, which were another big predictor of human events. Because commits showed up so irregularly they seemed linked to natural disasters, which were also random and unpredictable, not like the stars, which resembled stable seasons and society. Comet prediction was one of the most widely believed harbingers of earthly change, not astrology, all the way up until 1758 when Edmond Halley successfully predicted the return of what is now named Halleys Comet. And everyone who believed in comet divination said “well, shit…” and turned back to just Astrology.

Now, jumping right-in to the meat and potatoes, so to speak…

Planetary frequencies are not really a thing (more on that in a second)? The “strings” of string theory (if true) exist outside the 3-dimensional realm we call spacetime, they are not energies moving through our environment but the cause of the warp in dimensional energy which manifests AS spacetime itself and all the object in it, but only through quantum physics which describes the formation and properties of elemental particles, which are ultimately also created by the vibrations of these “strings” and we describe that process with Quantum Field Theory. Particles are the only things that can carry energies and forces around the universe. That is why there is such a big to-do about finding the not yet found “graviton” which causes gravity, because quantum physics has so far explained all energies, forces and matter we have encountered, so gravity should be next, hence lots of high energy smashing of particles at Cern in Switzerland.

On to planetary frequencies… planets like any other moving object do vibrate at specific frequencies depending on their composition and speed. Earth has a specific resonance different from other planets in our solar system and the sun. The thing is, vibrational kinetic energy cannot travel through a vacuum, it needs to ride on matter, like sound on air, only gravity and light energy (electromagnetic radiation) can travel in vacuums, so no vibrational energy transfer is happening between planets. Most planets have a moving metal core which is generating an electromagnetic field which allows life to survive the bombardment of energy from space. But electromagnetic radiation is a well studied phenomena and the levels we are exposed to from other planets are millions times weaker than even the stray radiation from say, a TV remote control.

The only thing, and THE thing that does effect everyone and everything in the universe no matter what, is gravity. Everything is making gravity and everything around you is pulling you towards it in ever so slight ways. We really do not know much about gravity, but it is an intrinsic property of matter, energy, and time. It is very weak unless it gets really condensed. It takes our whole planet to make enough gravity to keep us stuck to the ground, but you can easily break the force field for a moment by jumping. Gravity can also be seemingly magically condensed into incomprehensibly small spaces creating vary real objects in our universe (black holes) that not even light and time can escape from. Recent measurements of gravity and gravitational waves show there could be unknown effects, even of repulsion at larger distances. Other weird things about gravity is that even though it weakens with range, it has no limit and permeates infinity, and any object accelerated by gravity will continue to accelerate forever until it reaches the source of attraction (in a vacuum). All the mass of our moon only manages to shift the water on earth by a few feet… but… it ALSO has a very real effect on women’s menstrual cycles, everyones moods and many other things.

I think this is where the truth lies. Gravity and its true properties are the next frontier of science. If Astrology ever had any links to real physical phenomenon it was probably the relationship that gravity has on us as living organisms, what with us being filled with fluids and magnetic materials and whatnot. But to what degree and to what ends? Who knows, but that is what science is for… the continuing, collaborative measuring, observing and discussing what is, everything else is just fun and games.
